EARLY Class "A" Shays

April 18, 2001 03:58PM
As per a request to get back onto railroad/narrow gauge topics;
Are their any remains of the early (1880-1881) Class "A" Shays around?
I'm talking about CN#s 1 to 31. Wood beam frames, vertical boilers, etc...
A search for original blueprints has turned up ziltch. No prints at CSRM, or the Allen County Historical Society in Lima OH.
I've found sources for a couple of photos of these engines, along with some description of them in books such as "Titain of Timber." Also found some general information from www.shaylocomotives.com
Anyone know of information that's hiding in a closet somewhere?
Cheers,
Curtis F.
