There is already preservation efforts going on. Look at what was done with the rail car at Laws and what is being done with the 18. The 13 acres at Kearsarge is currently owned by the #18 group and who knows may one day see a few feet of rail again. There are also some boxcars that are making there way back on rails #6 in Independence is still due to recieve couplers and the rest of the brake rigging. Box 54 was moved to a backyard railroad in San Diego county and is now fully operational. Box 13 was just recently moved and may be repainted into SP colors by its new owners. There are also about 5 other cars that could be donated if there was a need to, but for now theye are better off where they sit. To those who plan on visiting the Owens Valley and would like to photograph cars, be carefull about trampling on private property without permision, the best way to get to some of these cars is to make friends with locals, you will come across cars and other railroad things that you never would have found otherwise. I have pictures of all the equipment and whats left along the r.o.w. that I know of, perhaps I will post some in the future. Altough I must admit I am not aware of boxcar 9's location in Bishop. #42 is the only one in Bishop I know of, its a short way off hwy 6 just north of town.
