I'm not so sure that @#$%&'s are the problem.
Having come from a small town, I suspect that the situation has now evolved in to Big city -vs- small town scenario. There is a natural distrust
in the smaller communties of the Big city fellow.
To the citizens of Creede, Durango would be a big city. And now a big city fellow is dictating to
them and the walls have gotten higher. I saw a mention of 500 voters in Creede. So I checked my Rand McNally atlas, which also includes "1990 census populations or latest available estimates, and Creede is credited with a population of 320. Assuming there is some sort of vote, the 20 on the sheriffs wanted list represent a good 10 per cent of the voters that Mr. Shank has already lost.
