There is no evidence that the Sumpter Valley ever ran forward into an engine house, even after the articulateds arrived and the new engine house had plenty of overhead clearance. There are photos of locomotives moved partway out for firing up, even the oil burners. No photos exist of locomotives in the turntable pit, nor did the old timers mention it.
