I'm always intrigued by the seeming propensity of narrow-gauge roundhouses to spot their occupants facing the turntable, and I wonder why some did.

Prevailing wisdom in the industry was to spot engines facing away from the turntable to give the mechanics more room to work on the locomotive's machinery in the wider part of the building, as well as in case of an accident, the tender is what ends up in the pit rather than the much heavier locomotive.
