"Where's the train", you ask. The best I can say is nearby. This shot was taken near Alder Springs which was below MP 36 on the Sumpter Valley Ry. At Alder Springs was a passing siding, phone booth, a logging spur of the Baker White Pine Lbr. Co. going up country above the mainline and a spur of the Oregon Lbr. Co. going off below. This photo is captioned "Warren Waite 1929". Since Baker White Pine went into receivership the previous year, it seems more likely that this is an Oregon Lbr. Co. operation. Undoubtedly, the log will be transported to a loading area where it will go on a narrow gauge log car bound for either Baker or Bates. I wish we could see the wheels and axle under the log a little better. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
