About 7 am this morning I checked our outdoor temperature gauge: 28 degrees - how appropriate for this day! 58 years ago on this day, January 25, it was also 28 degrees, the only difference being a minus sign: -28 degrees F in Alamosa that morning. So I thought I'd post a few shots from the early part of that day.
The hostlers had the cab curtains of 483 tightly snugged up as the engine waited for the road crew to take 483 and 493 on the last flanger & spreader run to Chama
The two engines departed Alamosa with a massive mile-long steam plume that drifted across the highway and reduced visibility to zero for road traffic
