The flanger spreader outfit consisted of a flanger, the Jordan spreader, a flat car carrying a bulldozer, a box car with equipment, and three cabooses
As we got closer to Antonito, the massive steam plume started to thin out some making it easier to pass the train
One thing that we did very rarely in those days was to include our fellow narrow gauge chasers in photos, but here my chasing partner Nguyen Quang Van took a photo of me watching the flanger spreader outfit barrel past ( Nguyen, an engineering student from Vietnam, had come along on this trip because he wanted to see snow that he had never seen before)
In Antonito the engines took on coal from the Red Devil coal loader. Here 493 has finished coal loading and has backed into a siding in preparation for switching the flanger between the two engines.
