It is true that European engines don't have a cow catcher, instead they have a sweeper bar in front of the leading wheels that serve the same purpose. Those sweeper bars are clearly visible in the photo at Dresden. European engines may look a little different from US engines, but in action any differences are quickly forgotten - steam is still steam, and is just as dramatic.
