How about closing off that pavement road, restoring 278 to operation, restoring the railroad grade and utilizing the bridge still by having a short ride through a section of the original Black Canyon going to the base of the dam then pulling onto a siding and backing up to Cimarron, could be cheaper in the long run, rather than craning the locomotive off the bridge every time damage happens?
I'd hate to see the bridge disassembled, if the locomotive was moved, it wouldn't be long before the bridge would get scrapped out, it should stay as a part of history that helped change America. How may people, traveling to the west coast and places in the west or east, have passed over this bridge in its life span of operation for the D&RG and the D&RGW?
Or plan B, if the locomotive is moved what railroad could handle this bridge on its line?
Still a Student,
