Thank you, John, for posting Tom's photos. I was in Rio Gallegos for a few days in 1978, and part of our group rode a passenger car attached to a regular freight one day, and chased freights on another. Here are a few shots from the chase. Over all, it was an impressive narrow gauge operation.
A 2-10-2 bringing up a train of empties on what is almost a transcontinental journey from the South Atlantic harbor facilities near Rio Gallegos to the Rio Turbio mines that are very close to the salt water fiords of the Pacific.
