0579 Caboose Restoration

Ted,
There is a dedicated crew that works in Antonito on this car. During Session D, some of the crew was working on the interior and finishing some of the brake line piping. The trucks need some more work. They had sent some work over to Chama, but I am not quite sure what was finished there.
I believe that the plan is to make both original cabooses 0579 and 0503 serviceable. However I think the general thinking is to keep these historical pieces for only limited use on photo charters or special events.
I was working on the rebuild of caboose 5635 the "Caboose formerly known as a stockcar" into a look alike long caboose. We are rebuilding the car from the frame up. The old car had a ugly outside frame body. We intend to rebuild it closer to a Long Caboose style. This caboose along with 0306 would be available for charter tours. Giving the historical cars less road time. Since 0306 and 5635 were both converted from other cars if something happens to them it is not a historical loss. At least that is my reading of the work.
I think 0579 is about a year out of being road worthy and completed. Maybe someone else can be more specific. The 0579 has come a long way from a shack on someones farm. I know we all will be happy to see her ready for the first revenue run!
