Thank you, Russo, for posting these two photos of 483 at Carbon Junction. I was actually looking to track these down in my somewhat chaotic filing system, but got sidetracked by shots of RGS 20 that might be fun to post.
Anyway, for those that missed my earlier posts of the events of August 12, 1966, here is why 483 is backing down the Farmington branch:
Following extended repairs to the Farmington branch, 483 ran to Farmington on August 11, 1966, and picked up a long string of empties. Due to serious weed growth during the summer, the crew ran out of time north of Bondad, dropped the train, and returned to Durango light engine. On August 12, 483 backed to the train, and attempted to pull it to Durango, but the weeds won out. The crew split the train and took part of the train to Carbon Junction and set it out in the siding. 483 then backed down the branch again for the remainder of the train, hence these photos.
