At one time there were two LaMothe ("tin") box cars at Mina. Both still exist -- sort of.
The one along the highway on the north end of town was partially burned and then was obtained by the Nevada State RR Museum. The damanged condition allows the construction of the cars to easily be seen. This car is in a Carson City area State of Nevada storage yard.
The other car was part of a railroad house to the east of the railroad yard. It remained there until about four years ago. It was given to the Mineral County [the county where Mina is located] Historical Museum. They felt that they could not properly care for the artifact; and so they transfered it to the Nevada State Railroad Museum. This car is within the rear recesses of the storage building at the Carson City museum site.
These are the only known examples of the LaMothe "pipe frame" cars from any railroad.
The box car at Mount Montgomery was still there on New Years Day 2004. It is away from the highway and is deteriorating, but it was still there.
