480 and 488 together

Olaf's thread and the picture of the 480 and 488 together stirred my memory....I think I have a picture of them together. Sure enough, and one of my favorites to boot.



Here are the two engines 60 some years ago on December 19, 1961 doubleheading between Chama and Azotea on a glorious winter day. Who could have guessed back then that the two engines would still be getting overhauls for regular service 60 years later. Gordon Chappell and I chased this train all the way to Durango, although it got dark around Oxford.
