From a historical perspective- the line where the derailment happened is a remnant of the PRR's famous "Elmira Branch" from Williamsport, PA to Sodus Point NY where photographers like Jim Shaughnessy and others chased the last of PRR steam (and leased READING T1s too) pushing mostly coal trains north to the pier at Sodus Point on Lake Ontario. Helpers were common here coming up from the south at Watkins Glen.
