Kurt,
Thanks for the update. Can I assume the part of the wall that fell away was originally built by the stone masons that built many retaining walls, culverts, and other stone structures for the railroad? I believe Mac Poor mentions in his D&SP&P book that stone masons from Europe were used on the entire system. Since the Italian labor force is no longer an option, how do the stones get put back in place so it resembles the original structure that I assume held roadbed in place? What skills will the volunteers have to accomplish this? Stone work would not be in my skill set, and I’ve had the privilege of admiring stone work done by others currently. For some reason I would want to put stones back in their original spots but then that would mean each stone was identified like a paint by number color book.
Asking this another way what results are the volunteers going for and would their results support a locomotive and train?
Thank you.
Craig
