Re: Palisade Repair Progress

This work is not being done by volunteers. A professional engineering firm was hired to plan the work in a historically consistent manner. A commercial rock scaling company has been hired to perform that work this summer, and a historical masonry contractor will be selected soon to perform the wall repair starting next summer. The total cost of this project will be in excess of $700,000, all of which has been procured as grant money from various sources. Many thanks are due for this funding effort, from the National Forest Foundation down to individuals who wrote letters of support. There is still one more funding activity to come from the State Historical Fund. When that effort commences I will put out a request for letters of support.

Many people have spent countless hours working on this effort and have done far more than I have. Chuck Severance of Woodland Park in particular has spearheaded the effort to merge many diverse interests including hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, 4WD groups, railroad groups, historical societies as well as the Gunnison National Forest without whose full support this would not be happening. It's the right group of people at the right time with the right funding. I'm very much looking forward to seeing it completed!
