Looking at these old photos from November 22, 1967, it seems amazing that my brother and I were able to beat 493 from Antonito to Lava, leaving Antonito not that long before the train left. We got to Lava in time to catch 493 coming around the big curve leading to the tank.
After taking the photo of 493 taking water, we drove the VW beetle to Big Horn. I'm amazed that we got there before the train. Maybe the backroads were more passable back then, because I don't think it would be feasible today.
