Which means it probably didn't happen very often, since the tank at Los Pinos is much easier to get to for photos than Lava or Osier, or even Sublette or Cresco. It's only about twelve miles from Osier to Cumbres – and half of that is nearly level – so it's not too surprising that westbound freights wouldn't need to stop there. Plus it's on an upgrade westbound — much easier to position a heavy train's tenders and to get started again after taking water at Sublette or Osier. Most likely the Los Pinos tank was maintained 'til at least 1964 mostly for westbound snowplow and flanger trains to use.
