Lighting on the old WSL was a challenge as well, and without digital to bail us out....lots of deep shadows and dark engines combined with sunny bright spots. A lightmeter was almost worthless. I hate to think of the old images that simply did not survive the challenge. Between digital's greater dynamic range and the ability of programs like Photoshop to bring out shadow detail and mitigate bright spots it a lot easier these days. Technology sure has been a boon to photography.
