I do have a question about the two engines that proved difficult to answer just by doing searches here on the NGDF —
They look nearly identical, even to the point of having been rebuilt with piston-valve "kits" on top of their cylinders in place of the original slide valves, and yet have widely different numbers, 40 & 111. Were they built for the same railroad initially, and later sold to different carriers (at least one of whom renumbered their engine) before being purchased separately and brought to the U.S.?
