Well, I might be able to shed a little light on the subject. I heard the lazy bum hasn't done a thing for the last 1 1/2 months. He claims that 115 degree heat out is Las Vegas, is to much for him. Ha! 115 degrees sounds about just right for a lawyer. Hotter would be better!
From what I gather, he has the trucks completed, along with walnut doors, combine doors, windows, shutters, interior paneling and the like. He also has birdseye maple oval panels for between the windows and above them. All lamps, window locks, sash lifts and railing have been made. Also he has made the corner posts, lentils, end sills, needle beams, platforms, couplers, and clearstory roof, along with rafters, carlines and all window posts. He claims this thing is supposed to be a replica of a car called"Palisade" that Eureka used to pull years ago. From what it sounds like, with all the hardwoods, oilcloth and filigree is would be more like a bordello from Lathrop Wells, Nv. All he will need is a honky tonk piano player and some floozies in satin dresses to ride along. He claims that he will get to the sills after he goes to the Durango & Silverton with Eureka. You bet. He's just heading to the cool Rockies when there's works to be done in Las Vegas. God knows, if he ever gets this stuff done, he would have some room in his shop to do some of those things his long suffering patient wife has wanted for the last 6 months....like a little end table. But the bets are running that this combine will look more like something designed and assembled by a government committee.
In any event, it is a sure bet that when he is on the Durango & Silverton with Eureka, August 23-29 that nothing will get done back at his home. Can you imagine that guy out playing in the Rockies with that old locomotive when there's work to be done in Las Vegas? If you want to see him and tell him to get back to the work on the combine, the best thing to do is call the D&S and check their schedule for Eureka. If you get a ticket on the Eureka train, then you can tell him yourself to get off his duff and get back to work.
