Earl, yours and others' observations on all this are priceless, as the history books are wont to capture such...

Reading all this, one gets a sense of the perfect storm of influences that facilitated the significant preservation we have today. Thinking aloud, the fortuitous traffic of the later years and the timely tourism popularity of the Sliverton branch appear to be two of them.
