Re: A real puzzlement

Well, that's what I hope to. Unfortunately, I've had extremely poor luck in identifying outfit cars. In all the 100+ cars I looked at around Alamosa last summer, probably 95% of the boxcars still had a number on the inside, but I never once found any in any outfit car. I only got one complete exterior number and two partials.
I have to wonder why there was no number inside. Is it that way with the outfit cars on the C&TS too? One thing that I did realize was a lot of the outfit cars had what seemed to be a lower sub-ceiling inside painted a yellow or creme color. I may not have noticed, but I didn't think that was present on non-outfit cars. I wonder if the number would have been covered up by that.
As for AFE reports, if you only knew how much I look forward to finally seeing them. The wealth of knowledge in them is just what my brain needs to feed on.
Well, back to the drawing board, and more investigating.
