I may be mistaken Chris, but I thought you are or were a professional NZ railroader? Is it common for professional railroader in your country to disregard the rules?
The C&TS is an extremely unique place where the general public can get close to living history in the form of 100+ year old steam locomotives. I'm fine with whatever safety measures the C&TS needs to have to keep the public safe and prevent a situation that would keep us out of the yard forever. It wouldn't take much for us to lose that privilege and encouraging people to ignore safety is disappointing at best.
As others have said many times before, RR safety rules are written in blood.
