My WAG? Somebody was trying to restore to closer to "as built" condition. It had a duck bill when built (by J&S in 1880 as D&RG 43, "Terra Amarilla". 3267 in '86, to RGS 257 in 1890) but is believed to have been changed to bull nose by 1904 or so. On the RGS it was rebuilt to a baggage(1930), then to a combine (1933) then sold (date??) to somebody in Montrose.
