In a Loco cab, far, far away, we were rolling through pastoral countryside, sitting in the Fireman's seat was a young feller along for a ride. He was in Station service back down the line and had joined us for the rest of the run up(to our changeover) as he desired to transfer in to the Loco branch.
Just after crossing the long bridge at Waipawa, I noticed a few sheep on the line and as we hit them I told the young feller to look back down the train. Well a few seconds later, headless, legless bloodied carcasses were ejected out from the underside of the wagons. Our young potential Enginedriver turned around and looked at me all green-like, and as we wallowed into the next reverse curve I opened the side window for him.
I never heard if he ever got over to Loco.
