"{Very} Close, Sailor — but {not quite a} cigar . . . "
Per the flyer advertising said happenings, a framed copy of which is hanging in my denning room* among a dozen or so photos and paintings of steam locomotives (mostly narrow gauge), the date of the first Great Event was August 2
5, 1972
:
For another of Ernie's photos from August 25, and several of mine from the 2nd Great Event on 09/22/72, see [

The day after the third Great Event, the C&TS staged the first of its REALLY Great Events — the 'Toltec Rattler' Foto Freight of October 22, 1972.
Here's the train arriving at Osier, IIRC around noon

p.s. The Rattler wasn't really a Phraud-O-Phreight™, since no effort was made to re-letter the locos or the caboose as D&RGW.
* Too open for a den, but too small for a living room.
