Re: Question about who called the train crews

When the UP took over the MKT RR they hadn’t mergered dispatching offices yet. The Daylight chief was called “Kingfish” by everyone. He was a interesting guy to talk to. I was quizzing him on his career and he mentioned he started as a call boy during WW2 when they were desperate for help. Had lots of stories about having to know where to find crews, especially the away from home guys. Bars, Girlfriends places and a few places of ill repute too.
He was only in High School at the time. He actually ended up dispatching trains before the end of the war. When the war ended they told him to go home and come back after he finished High School, which was about a year later.
