Jim Pearce told me a story that when they were filming Denver and Rio Grande the 268 and 345 were all set up for the head on collision and the weather would not cooperate, so the shot had to be postponed a day. As the engines were hot, they needed a warm body to tend to them overnight. The crews for the shot were dead on the law so had to go back to Durango. Jim was on the Extra Board, but since it was evening and no trains were called that night, he decided to take a date to the movies in Durango. Partway through what Jim thought was a pretty enjoyable movie with his date the film suddenly stopped and the lights came on. Then a voice bellowed out: "Is there a Jim Peace here?" Jim responded and was told to report immediately to work. He was sent up on a speeder to keep the engines hot overnight. That's how much power the railroad had back then...
