There have been a lot of arguments about the color of boiler jackets on the T&P. Here is a shot of 610 when painted with the correct color of Charles R Long company light russia. It does have a bluish hue to it. In just a few months that blue would go away leaving gray green. Compare to a color shot of T&P 4-8-2 in Dallas in July 1950 dirty but none the less in a gray green. This color would fade to a gray green color.similiar to that on 315 at the Texas State R R. (If you never bothered to paint again, the original color would finally fade to a all white color) To confuse the situation when T&P gave 610 to Ft Worth they painted the boiler gray. T&P paint chart showed that a boiler gray color (no name or number) could be used on engines that did not have planished steel jackets. Almost all T&P power had the planished steel. The 2nd time it was painted after retirement is when it got the correct paint. The last picture shows it with 10 year old faded paint, now gray.
