I'd like to see the sheds rebuilt, they were an important part of DRGW operations. Let me be purposefully provocative, just to maybe stir up some discussion. In my experience when the subject of rebuilding the show sheds comes up, the usual response is SHPO won't allow it. That is not correct. There is an argument that recreations will confuse a gullible public, just like there is an argument that using historic machinery will destroy orginal fabric. These are not right or wrong issues, different situations justify different answers. I think rebuilding or recreating the show sheds can be justified as part an interpretation plan that deals with the challenge of keeping a mountain pass open in the steam era. It fits right in with running the rotary and various snow clearing events on the railroad. Does it make economic sense? The various snow clearing events on the C&TS have sold well. The various OY runs have been incredibly dramatic and garnered the railroad national press coverage. Perhaps taking tourists in the remote wintery landscape around Osier is another possibility. Certainly trying to bring more tourists to Chama in the winter would be helpful to their highly seasonal economy. Make sense? I have no idea but I would not reject the concept out of hand.
