What you mean-um 'eastbound', Kemo Sabé?
Being at least a dozen years younger, you had an easier time getting to a better vantage point — but my shot that afternoon shows the train was heading west

p.s. I only waited a dozen years (and a few months) between my first trip through Toltec Tunnel #2 in early June of 1960 and my first run-by there in late October of 1972. The C&TS first 'Phraud-O-Phreight™ (well, semi-Phraud-O, anyway – the tenders weren't even re-lettered
Rio Grande) ran from Chama to Big Horn and back, so – as in 2013 – the run-by at the west portal was beautifully lit with warm late-afternoon light — IIRC what you pro photographers call the "golden hour"
