The best information we have at the NCNG museum leads us to believe that after the war the locomotive was sold to Dole and went off to the Phillippines. One of our members was planning to take a trip over there and search but I never heard what became of that. I do recall he did some investigation in Hawaii and a paper trail led the belief 9 went to the Phillippines.
So far though nothing else has turned up over than a series of "reports" of the engine being all over the place, including one report of the NCNG lettering starting to show on the tender again at the time because of the fading paint.
How much of these stories are true I can't say personally, but we like to keep the belief that 9 is out there and could one day return.
When it comes to building a new locomotive personally I'd like to see #1 or 3 rebuilt but thats just me.
