It's so fantastic to see all the photos. This line is incredible, well worth the expense and time to get to. John and Michael, thanks for the photos from the '70s and 1991--these are so rare to come by.
I was there in 2000 (5 days covering the southern end only) and in 2006 (3 days covering the entire line). My motive was 1) to capture what wasn't in the books, articles and websites, namely car details and track plans and 2) experience a 19th century desert railroad. This is literally the closest thing to the Carson & Colorado, Nevada Central or Eureka & Palisades you'll ride. Nothing compares to hours sitting on the rear platform of the fourgon (caboose) watching the scenery roll by.
One of our Baldwins marshalling the train in Ing Jacobacci. The local kids crawl all over the engines.
Backing the train at Jacobacci to the mainline, the diner and our crew's fourgon in front of the engine.
I got the first cab ride from Jacobacci to the junction when almost nobody else seemed interested. The Baldwin's backhead. At full speed the viewing port was left open and a flame shot into the cab with each stroke.
