You are probably right, they certainly were busy. The schedule in those days was a mixto three days a week, and a "carga con coche" on three days. The routine seemed to be to fill out the mixto to the tonnage that a single engine could handle and still get over the road more or less on schedule (since they had the broad gauge connection at Jacobacci). Then every thing else went out on the other three days on the cargo con coche with two engines, and if there was more to move presumably they ran extras. I can understand why you like your favorite image posted below. It is about as big country small train as you can get.
