Greasing our rails is popular with the Amish (they don't have cable, you know). Years ago, Bill Moedinger filmed an older Amish man greasing Strasburg's rails. The guy knew he was being filmed, but kept right on doing his thing. I understand that it's pretty funny to watch.
Our crossing of Black Horse road was a stop and flag affair for many years, and greasing the uphill side of the crossing was apparently great entertainment with the engine starting from a dead stop. The down side was that the down bound trains would often miss their stop due to the grease and slide right through the crossing, not so good.
