Interesting read Paul, I hadn't seen that before, also hadn't heard about the connection of the Ghan name to a Mr Gahan. How some nicknames are started will never be known, the modern way seems to be to attribute an overlee complicated theory to a name, based on someones great auntys second cousin saw it happen, I personally believe some names can be attributed to a simple of the cuff comment that has resonance and just sticks! I like the Mr Gahan comment in the article, I also can see a simplistic explanation that the new train would take over the job the Afghans used to do, so it becomes the Afghan.
As Aleksandr the Meercat would say, 'simples'
Interesting to hear the pregnant lady comment has applied overseas as well, wait till I tell a few locals that, cause that was my great auntys second cousin that was the pregnant woman!! LOL
