I had to look at my maps to see what the road numbers were George, we don't refer to highways by number like you Americans do, although the practice is creeping in. But yes the railway pretty well parallels the B83 highway to Maree, after Maree the line follows the Oodnadatta Track thru William Creek to Oodnadatta, which is only a dirt road, sometimes in good nick, most times not so. The road heads west from Oodnadatta to join the Stuart Hwy, the railway make it's own way thru the flood prone and sand hill country to Finke and then Alice Springs.
