The Lehigh Valley engine #1 Dorothy was sold to a private owner in the 30's who built a circle of track on his estate to run the engine. He also owned a mine engine decked out with a number of whistles and other ornaments. It was his engine after all. He passed away and during ww2 his widow donated all of it to the war effort and it was scrapped. Its covered in Archer's book on the Lehigh Valley. As pointed out, in the early to mid forties we didn't know how the war would turn out so everything went to the effort including the lamented mason bogie from Iowa State. Today its easy to take the actions as extreme and revisionists claim it was all a waste, but if we hadn't done what we did, who knows..........
