This is indeed a poser, but I think there’s always a stock rail in play. Set to the middle road, both the far left and far right blades rest against their respective stock rails. Both right hand blades rest together against the right stock rail when set for the left road, and both left hand blades rest together against the left stock rail when set for the right road. The blades not in play float free, just like with a normal two way switch.

And I also stand to be corrected!
