In this case the train was too long to fit in the wye and the siding. The lead engine and the first few cars ended up on the east leg of the wye.
The rear half of the westbound train, with helper engine are on the west leg and tail of the wye.
The forward half filled up the siding.
The road engine and a few more cars ended up on the east leg of the wye.
Mainline was clear for 490 to come through headed east, No "sawby-ing" necessary.
An extension of the tail of Big horn Wye allowed this to happen. The new track was laid without contacting Corporate in Denver or the forest service (or BLM?).
When Bob Richardson (he took the photo) reported the new trackage in the Narrow Gauge News, there was some fireworks about it from Denver when they found out
