Whoa there! Canon is NOT abandoning their EF lenses. What the announcement stated was that for the time being, they were not working on developing any
new EF mount lenses and would focus development on mirrorless. This makes sense given how complete and mature their EF line is. EF lenses are still being manufactured and sold, and likely will be for the foreseeable future.
I know others have mentioned this, but I wanted to chime in as well. Jerry's shots look they way they do because of Jerry, not his camera. Any of the top brands can produce incredible images in the hands of a skilled photographer and what's subjectively "best" for any given shooter is just that... subjective. A pretty good argument can be made that the "best" mirrorless cameras are actually Sony's line - they have led that market for some time now and yet personally I don't care for them for a number of reasons. Other's rave about them.
Most of us shoot with a given brand because we've used it for a long time and are comfortable with the ergonomics and have an investment in glass and accessories for that brand. If you're starting fresh, I would certainly look at Sony, Canon and Nikon and see what you're most comfortable with.
