I wonder why they chose to mount the clearance gauge at the end of the car and opposed to the middle? The mid point of the car will overhang the rail on the inside of a curve more than the end of the car. Perhaps their greatest concern is the clearance of the cab, which is very close to the pivot point of the locomotive truck. Maybe theyre trying to approximate the relationship of the cab to the trucks.
