And Hank, you mentioned Barrow Steel - Barrow-In-Furness England. The local Credit Valley Rly near me (later CPR) had Rail from there, and we just found a length duly labelled Barrow and dated 1879. Since the railway where we found it came through there in Sept 1879, I was surprised it hadn’t been made the year before. So did some research and period company meeting minutes for late 1878 said the ship “Copia” carrying the rail had been lost at sea. So new rail had to be made ASAP and was received in Montreal at Spring breakup 1879. So, a first piece of rail found for that line too.
Still, a lettered piece of D&RG original would be the real prize!
