I have not posted the photos in the order I shot them. This set was mostly the first day of the 493 taking the train to Rockwood.
1. The 493 took the flats, gons and caboose to Rockwood on Tuesday. The lumber company crew was already there. The D&S took their cutting equipment on a flat car with a diesel the week before. All the cutting, loading and unloading is done by the lumber company. The D&S does all the switching to unload the cars.
2. This operation has nothing to do with the Forest Service. They are only cutting trees from the D&S ROW as fire mitigation and to improve the view. The Forest Service may work with the lumber company and D&S later to remove beetle kill trees and trees brought down by last winter's avalanches and snow slides. Nothing definite now.
3. The D&S brought the 493 down for servicing. The flat cars and gons will stay at Rockwood. They will take the 493 back to Rockwood, I am guessing Tuesday morning.
4 Some guys have hiked in to the high line or on the other side of Rockwood cut. I have not done that yet. I will be photographing the cutting and loading process soon.
