So what are we looking at Jerry....the very first run with the empty train.
While this is a cool thing to witness with a logging operation and steam, the way I see it there are very limited opportunities to photograph.
For example
(1) The train only ran once, the first day, between Durango and Rockwood(Then on to get the logs).
(2) You can only get the empty train departing Rockwood the other days
(3) You can only get the loads arriving in Rockwood.
Someone said they were taking the engine(Or maybe the whole train??) to Durango at the end of the week, so there is a possible opportunity.
Then the day they resume work you have the empty train going back to Rockwood from Durango. Besides that your options are to hike in.
In other words for someone out of town it really isn't worth the effort to travel a long way, cause most of the day you couldn't do anything!!
Does that about sum it up.
Its still cool, just not easy to photograph or video.
By the way was this whole project started by the D&S, or the forest service? Is the D&S paid by the forest Service or just from the lumber company for the wood?
Are the crews cutting from the lumber company or the railroad?
Cheers, and nice photos as usual. Glad you got the first one!
