I rediscovered this thread today, and for the hell of it I decided to look on a Colorado state database for water rights/management. The map database website I'm looking at is hosted by "Colorado's Department of Natural Resources" [
maps.dnrgis.state.co.us]
First off, It appears all the tanks are named simply "WATER TANK NO
x [name]" What's odd is the order each tank happens to be numbered as you'll see below. Also worth noting this does not list any owners of said listings.
Tank Creek Tank is "Structure Pipeline: WATER TANK NO1 TANK CREEK" (WDID = 3000669). Also shows the listing was added to the database in 1970. There's a second listing up Tank Creek a little bit named "TANK CREEK DITCH", added in 1971. Both of these have "Current-in-Use" flags which state "Active structure but diversion records are not maintained (U)"
The listing for the Hermosa Tank is located where I presume the pump for it is located across Highway 550 at Hermosa Creek, named "Structure Pipeline: WATER TANK NO 2 HERMOSA" (WDID = 3000670). "Current-in-Use = Active Structure with contemporary diversion records (A)". The listing is obviously not located within the D&S Hermosa Yard.
The Bondad Tank is interestingly listed as "Structure Pump: WATER TANK NO
4 BONDAD" (WDID = 3001262). "Current-in-Use = Historical structure only - no longer exists or has records, but has historical data (H)"
Needleton Tank is listed as "Structure Pipeline: WATER TANK NO5 NEEDLETON" (WDID = 3000671). "Current-in-Use = Active structure but diversion records are not maintained (U)"
So, that leaves the question, Why do these skip past 3... Relating to the subject of the second half of this thread, I did go looking for anything related to the Whitehead Gulch Flume and the Mill Creek/Deer Park Creek Tank. As expected, nothing related to them exists in this database, as explained above the Flume was a temporary water right and I'd assume the Mill Creek Tank never was introduced to any database in the first place.
I then tried to look for this database's search feature. Took me a moment to figure out it was in plain sight in the top right corner... but I typed in "Water Tank NO3" and wouldn't you know it...
Is there any knowledge of the D&S getting the water rights to the Florida Tank as well? The location of this listing obviously isn't correct, but the fact that its at least near where the actual Florida tank was and the matching naming scheme + similar flags shared with the Bondad tank make me highly believe this is referring to the actual Florida Tank (and pump house still standing today).
Now, I know that these databases aren't 100% accurate about a lot of things, I learned that the hard way in that other thread I made about the D&S ROW, but there's at least no harm in sharing my findings I suppose.
