Jon,
Those Bachmann engines sure are something for their size, huh? For my 1943 themed ET&WNC fictional branch line, I just had to have one!

Notice that put a generator behind the stack. I also made a new number plate and the decals went on one at a time (which sure took a while).
The Benning one is the only complete Davenport I'm aware of. Vulcan and a couple others built their own versions of the Baldwin "Class 10" design (I speak of this in my review of the new Bachmann product in the newest O Gauge Railroading magazine). The only existing Baldwin class 10 is on a tourist RR in France, but only the running gear it original (it went to Australia for decades and was heavily modified there). There are portions of other trench engines of various nationalities, but there's no consistent list of them all of how much exists of each.
Only one or two Baldwins stayed in the US, the rest went to France and none came back complete (or at all, depending on what book you ready). My money is on both of them were scrapped long ago
However, Davenport, Vulcan and other copies were seen being used all over the US after WW1. I saw a photo of one being used on a road project in my review research but I don't have the photo info with me right now.
The Fort Benning one has been on display since the 50s as I understand it. It was painted black at it's previous spot, outside of the old base hospital where the Infantry museum used to be. I have no clue why they painted it OD green as there are no photos I'm aware of showing any US army steam locomotive in OD green. Even the photos of the other Davenports at Benning on the sign right next to the display show they were all black. Instead, they painted it the same colorfast OD green they painted everything else at the museum. Still, it's on display outside the building and the fences for the WW2 buildings, so you can walk up to it even if the museum is close (it's behind the much from the parking lot).
I have several photos of the Davenport. You can see most of them by clicking here.
I took a very good look at the engine when I saw it right after Christmas of 2019, and she's not in terrible shape considering how long she was outside. The boiler, though, I have no idea what shape that's in. Due to how the Army handles historical items like this (I used to be Captain in the US Army and was once stationed at Aberdeen MD, up the hill from the Ordnance Museum when it was still there), you'll never see this in steam again...
BTW, I was born and raised in Tallahassee, and spent a lot of time at Panama City through my youth. drinking smiley
